По прогнозам Международной диабетологической федерации (IDF), к 2030 г. популяция больных СД может достигнуть 552 млн человек [<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="cit2">2</xref>]. В Российской Федерации (РФ) в начале 2011 г. было зарегистрировано 3 млн 269 тыс. больных СД, хотя данные выборочных эпидемиологических исследований в различных регионах страны свидетельствуют о том, что реальная численность больных СД может достигать 9 млн человек [<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="cit3">3</xref>].
