По данным европейской и американской статистики, известно, что около 45% женского населения в возрасте 40-60 лет в той или иной степени отмечают симптомы непроизвольной потери мочи. Согласно результатам отечественных исследований симптомы недержания мочи встречаются у 38,6% женщин, проживающих в России. Недержание мочи подразделяют на стрессовую, или недержание мочи при напряжении (вследствие повышения внутрибрюшного давления), императивную (вследствие гиперактивности детрузора) и смешанную формы. Но в клинической практике встречаются еще т. н. редкие формы недержания мочи, диагностика и лечение которых порой представляют трудности вследствие скудной освещенности проблемы в литературе.

Incontinence is one of the most common diseases in women, especially in the elderly population. Certain gynecological disorders are characterized by dysfunctional voiding, such as stress urinary incontinence and overactive bladder. Therapeutic recommendations are based on the causes of dysfunctional voiding and the course of the disease.
