<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The article reviews current approaches to primary prevention of cardiovascular events and risk-benefit balance in the use of statin therapy in healthy people at risk of cardiovascular disease; the results of large clinical trials evaluating the efficacy of statins used for primary prevention; safety of statins, particularly, a higher risk of developing diabetes; different approaches to the selection of necessary and sufficient doses of statins in primary prevention.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>первичная профилактика</kwd><kwd>сердечнососудистые заболевания</kwd><kwd>статины</kwd><kwd>primary prevention</kwd><kwd>cardiovascular events</kwd><kwd>statins</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Randomised trial of cholesterol lowering in 4444 patients with coronary heart disease: the Scandinavian Simvastatin Survival Study (4S).
