Abstract
The article presents the current criteria for the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus (DM), classification, clinical symptoms of hyperglycemia, pediatrician's tactics in detecting hyperglycemia and glycosuria. Clinical examples of identifying type 1 and 2 diabetes in children are provided, common mistakes when using blood glucose meters are explained.
