Abstract

The infectious process is often considered as the cause of the development of functional gastrointestinal disorders in childhood. To date, the pathogenetic basis of postinfectious functional gastrointestinal disorders has not been definitively established, and clinical studies evaluating the effectiveness of modern therapies for this pathology remain isolated. This article presents current approaches to treating functional gastrointestinal disorders that develop after acute intestinal infection (AII) and reflects experience in treating these conditions. The authors describe clinical cases demonstrating the diversity of functional gastrointestinal disorders in children. The first case is a 7-year-old girl diagnosed with an acute intestinal infection, which demonstrates the development and clinical manifestations of post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome. The second case is a 4-year-old girl complaining of constipation after an AII treated with antibiotics. A 6-year-old boy complained of abdominal pain and nausea that developed 3 months earlier after acute gastroenteritis. In the treatment of children, combination therapy was used, including the drug trimebutine in combination with a probiotic containing LGG, which represents the optimal treatment option for these disorders, ensuring ease of use, safety for children, and comprehensive restoration of the microbiota and intestinal motor function after the infectious process, which manifests itself in the form of rapid regression of symptoms such as pain, spasms, and bowel disorders.
